According to International Living's report, "the third/safest country in the world in the 2017 Global Peace Index, Portugal is not only secure, but beautiful." Portugal comes two places before Spain, who is ninth. These two countries which are located on the Iberian Peninsula, are the only European nations on the list. The top three destinations by International Living are Costa Rica, Mexico and Panama.
It was suggested to start a trip to Portugal with a visit to Lisbon as it is easy accessible by direct flights from all major cities worldwide. Lisbon's public metropolitan and suburban commuters are comprehensive and the English language is widely spoken.
Portugal's location on the Atlantic Ocean has influenced many aspects of its culture: salt cod and grilled sardines are national dishes, the Algarve's beaches are a major destination and much of the nation’s architecture dates to the 1500s–1800s, when Portugal had a powerful maritime empire. Who is familiar with Portugal, knows that the Algarve is not comparable with the rest of the country. The Algarve, being a tourist attraction and golfer's paradise for more than three decades, is a melting pot of different nationalities and languages and has become very cosmopolitan by the latest influence of French, Russian and Swedish immigrants, while the Brexit rather slowed down the British buyers.
It is a must to visit some fabulous parts of Portugal, such as the capital Lisbon and Porto, the art & culture city, as well as Guimarães, Coimbra, Braga, Obidos, Evora and the mountains of Serra Estrela. You will be impressed by the quality of life and food this little country has to offer.
