Startup Portugal and Government announce four new measures to support entrepreneurship: updating the Startup Hub and launching digital residences, the Balcão do Empreendedor and the program to modernize the interior + CO3SO Digital.
The measure had already been released in the current government program. And it is now officially announced: as in Estonia Startup Portugal and the Government will create the figure of the digital residence to give rights in Portugal to foreign citizens, even if they are not physically in the country.
This measure, which is at the top of the Government’s priorities for entrepreneurship in Portugal, consists of the creation of an electronic residency program, giving foreign citizens who benefit from it “ access to public services, banking services and all the necessary conditions for the online creation of a company with Portuguese taxpayer ”, reads the Startup Portugal statement released this Monday.
The objective of the E-Residence 2.0 program, which will be designed by Startup Portugal, is to attract digital nomads, entrepreneurs and foreign investors to the country. The non-profit association that was born in 2016 with the launch of the National Strategy for Entrepreneurship estimates that the program will make it possible to attract 5,000 foreign citizens to Portugal, boosting the country’s economy and international profile.
