It is a worrying time for everyone at the moment and we appreciate that you are currently focused primarily on the health and safety of yourselves and your loved ones, in a time of social distancing and uncertainty, business progression is going to be slower.

As always in difficult and unusual moments, we have at least two options to position ourselves: the optimistic and the pessimistic… we have chosen the optimistic! We believe, that everything will happen in the best possible way.

So as  the COVID-19 crisis is putting extraordinary pressure on the communities we serve, it requires us to expand our view and while we look after ourselves we feel also responsible for so many others around us.

There are many charities in need and we have picked some organisations we find important to support as they deliver food, resources and health on a local level.

Even as we contemplate our own challenges during this time, I hope you’ll consider joining the effort.
Here are some of the fundraisers and institutions for you to choose from.

ALGARVE ACADEMIC CENTRE FOR BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH AND TRAINING.
The Algarve Biomedical Centre (ABC), a consortium between the Biomedicine Investigation Centre (BIC), the University of Algarve Medicine and Biomedic Ciences Department and the Algarve University Hospital Centre (Hospital Centre that runs the three public hospitals in the Algarve: Faro, Portimão e Lagos) is providing first line assistance in the fight against COVID-19, because it can act without the burocratic procedures’ limitations of our National Healthcare System, therefore it can apply the funds and acquire the equipment and materials in a much faster way.

FLATTENING THE CURVE FUNDING GROUP.
On 27th March a group of Algarve Residents started to raise funds to fight Coronavirus and, as of today, this group has raised over €500.000, with donations still pouring in. In addition to the money already raised  they launched a go fund me page to reach everyone. The Fundraiser is donating the money to the health system locally for the frontline professionals. They do not currently have all the necessary equipment to ensure their safety and provide the best effective care to those that require treatment.

TECH4COVID19.
This Fundraiser was launched by a group of more than 300 Portuguese startups and their entrepreneurs and teams, with the aim of slowing down the spread of Covid-19 and assisting in its diagnosis and treatment. All proceedings will be used to acquire and donate equipment in shortage to healthcare centers, professionals and hospitals.

SOS,COVID19.PORTUGAL.
Accepting the challenge of a medical friend who is part of the group, they have created a civil society movement to help health professionals who are in the front line in the fight against COVID-19, with real difficulties in obtaining health equipment that is so scarce. They are not a charity. They are just a group of citizens living in Lisbon who are doing their best to try and help those who protect us.

CARITAS PORTIMÃO
The Caritas network in Portugal is made up of twenty Diocesan Caritas, united in the Portuguese Caritas, and numerous local groups working in the parishes and communities. In view of the situation of COVID-19, the social impact is one of the most serious consequences of the health emergency. In view of the social changes that have been imposed on families, many new situations of requests for support have arisen and for them Caritas has created a new immediate response.
