Located between the Ocean coast and the city of Loulé, Almancil has been a parish since 1836.
With the development of the luxury resorts of Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago, Almancil became a service hub for all the needs of the foreign immigrants and homeowners in the area.
The western part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park is a site of great botanical value and natural habitat of rare ornithological species. The coastal area, about 12 km, where the famous beaches of Ancão, Quinta do Lago, Garrão and Vale do Lobo are located, is also very attractive. Property prices are amongst the highest in Portugal in the areas between Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo.
